FACULTYSPOTLIGHT School of Social and Behavioral Sciences Asha holds a bachelor's degree in Sociology from Hampton University, a master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from Michigan State University (MSU), as well as a doctoral degree in Human Development and Family Studies with a specialization in Couples and Family Therapy from MSU. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in the states of Michigan and Illinois. Her clinical training and experience includes working with families in the child welfare system to reduce the risk of family violence during the reunification efforts of biological parents whose children have been removed from their physical custody. In addition to providing federal and state public policy support around a number of foster care and children's physical health needs, Asha has provided therapeutic services to families experiencing homelessness. Asha began working as an adjunct professor at NCU in the Fall of 2013 and was hired full time in June 2014. She currently teaches courses in the master's and doctoral programs (5105, 6102, 6101, 6113, 7101, 7102, and 8103) and is an AAMFT-approved supervisor, providing weekly supervision to NCU students enrolled in practicum and internship courses. Asha's research interests include examining the cultural experiences of African Americans and identifying prosocial forms of mental health support. In her free time, Asha enjoys spending time with her husband and two daughters, brunching with friends and baking sugary treats. ASHA B.
