Elaine Willerton, PhD | Assessment Director, SSBS SSBS Student Services Overview – 2018 Faculty Survey on Sufficiency Each year the SSBS invites leaders from various NCU student services to a Faculty Focus Meeting to provide a brief overview and update of their mission and services. The impetus for holding such a meeting lies in a COAMFTE requirement to demonstrate sufficiency of student services as rated by various stakeholders. In addition, Faculty feedback to this presentation each year has been largely positive, highlighting the benefits of this overview, especially for Faculty who may be newer to NCU. Student services represented in the Faculty meeting included: Academic Advising/Financial Aid, Academic Success Center, Disabilities Services, Enrollment, Diversity and Inclusion, International Student Support, Library Services, Ombudsman, Student Advisory Boards, IT Service Desk, and Center for Teaching and Learning. Following the meeting, Faculty were invited to respond to a brief survey. Participants included 37 MFT Faculty and 26 Psychology Faculty; 31 were full-time and 32 were part-time Faculty. The majority of Faculty ratings indicated that the student services are sufficient. Faculty comments and suggestions offer insights as to how some services could be strengthened. They also reveal opportunities for Faculty to be further informed of available resources. Suggestions for future training were forwarded to the SSBS Faculty Development Committee. Below are some selected feedback themes and follow-up information. Sometimes Faculty are not getting the IT support needed from the Service Desk. If you do not receive a response from the Service Desk within 24 hours or if your issue is not completely resolved, e-mail your department chair who can escalate the issue as needed. How is curriculum reviewed and updated to ensure resources are current? All courses are on a two-year revision cycle. Sometimes, though, specific curriculum projects take precedent due to other factors. If you notice any broken links or out-of-date content in the curriculum, please submit a Faculty Feedback Form (see the SSBS FRANK page for a link). Could there be a more consistent review of curriculum specific to diversity? The Diversity Committee is working on developing a streamlined process to take on this responsibility. Members of the instructional design team are also available to assist SMEs in incorporating diversity content into course revisions. It would be helpful to have more support for student use of SPSS. The Academic Success Center offers a group session on Introduction to SPSS. They also have support for students in using SPSS for statistics and research courses. For more information see the ASC website or e-mail asc@ncu.edu. It is sometimes difficult to find specific resources in the Academic Success Center. There is a search bar on the main ASC page which will often help you find specific resources. Students can also reach out to asc@ncu.edu for specific inquiries. Are there any "how-to" videos on using NCUOne (e.g., creating a welcome video, leaving video feedback)? The Center for Teaching and Learning has a number of instructional tip sheets and webinars on topics related to using NCUOne – find these on the CTL website. Our SSBS associate director for faculty support and development, Mindi Mull, can also point faculty to specific resources.
