Financial aid is a catch-all term for any type of financial assistance offered to students to help pay higher education costs. There are many types of financial aid, and many sources that offer it as well. When most people say "financial aid" however, they are typically referring to federal financial aid. This is money in the form of grants, scholarships, loans or special employment opportunities for students, all provided or facilitated by the federal government.
