Master of Science in Nursing (MSN)
The role of nursing in the contemporary healthcare
setting involves more than just standard patient care.
Nurses now manage their patients' care in a
comprehensive way, working with multiple disciplines,
maintaining accurate records and applying policies
and best practices in order to improve outcomes.
NCU's Master of Science in Nursing with a
specialization in Management and Organizational
Leadership program is designed to enhance the
knowledge of the nurse generalist to have a positive
impact on healthcare outcomes. This specialty
prepares
staff nurses to assume a broader leadership
role in nursing management within a healthcare
organization and to actively participate in and lead
interdisciplinary teams.
Students will explore the principles of healthcare
administration, data-driven decision making,
healthcare law, and resource and financial
management. They will also learn about the best
practices for recruitment, retention and staffing
strategies, including the relationship between staffing
levels and quality of care. Additionally, students will
complete an evidenced-based research project
designed to offer invaluable hands-on experience.
In addition to the American Association of Colleges
of Nursing (AACN) MSN Essentials (2011), the
specialization outcomes were based upon the
American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE)
Nurse Executive Competencies (2015).
