Welcome to the Department of Marriage and Family Sciences. NCU's Department of Marriage and Family Sciences was launched in 2005 and today has thousands of students and alumni from across the United States and around the globe dedicated to the field of marriage and family therapy and social work. We offer the first distance-based Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT) to be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education (COAMFTE). In addition, our PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy is the first, and only, distance-based PhD program to gain COAMFTE accreditation. This coveted programmatic accreditation ensures that NCU's marriage and family therapy (MFT) programs align with national accreditation standards and licensure requirements in most states.* Our newest program is our Master of Social Work, which was launched in August 2018 and is in the process of pursuing programmatic accreditation through the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). We're very proud of the positive impact we've had on our students and how they are serving their communities after earning their NCU degree. Under the guidance of mentoring professors who are experienced, licensed MFT and MSW practitioners, our students acquire the knowledge, skills, practical application and values that help shape them into competent, ethical and culturally sensitive marriage and family therapists and social workers. A vast majority of our graduates go on to achieve licensure to practice as MFTs. The success of our graduates tells us that our coursework is relevant, and that our approach truly prepares them for the next step in their busy professional lives. I hope you enjoy learning more about what makes NCU's marriage and family therapy and social work programs different and quite remarkable. * Exceptions include Kansas and New Hampshire Department of Marriage and Family Sciences WELCOME FROM THE DEPARTMENT CHAIR 23 DARREN ADAMSON, PhD Chair Department of Marriage and Family Sciences COAMFTE accreditation indicates that a marriage and family therapy program has met stringent accreditation standards and demonstrates quality in marriage and family therapy education. NCU's MAMFT was the first distance-based program to receive COAMFTE accreditation and our PhD-MFT is the first, and still the only, distance-based doctoral program to receive COAMFTE's coveted programmatic accreditation.
