Dr. Glenda Arrington is an inspector general with the Department of Defense in Fort Meade, MD. She has oversight of programs and operations promoting economy, efficiency and effectiveness in preventing fraud, waste and mismanagement of government assets. "I have been able to share the research I did in pursuing my degree at NCU," says Arrington. "My dissertation, 'Examinination of Relationships Between Generation Cohorts and Managerial Effectiveness in the Federal Government Workplace,' has generated interest among many federal workers who are managing a multi-generational workforce." Dr. Arrington's research points to managerial challenges that leaders face related to supervising a multi-generational workforce." For the first time, in the 21st century, four generational cohorts, including Traditionalists, Baby Boomers, Generation Xers, and Millennials, are working alongside one another in the federal government," writes Arrington. "Members of the four generations bring their beliefs to the workplace. Such diversity can affect the perception of managerial effectiveness among employees." She has both written and spoken on the topic – with an article in the International Journal of Applied Management and Technology (2018, Volume 17) and a presentation to federal government senior executives and managers at the Federal Executive Institute. What she liked most about NCU was the ability to take courses and complete her degree online, from any location. "My position requires travel, and I liked being able to manage course requirements and complete assignments from anywhere in the world." In her free time, Dr. Arrington volunteers to facilitate reintegration and reunion weekend events for military family members and military members returning from overseas operations.
