What is it and why does it matter? • The strategic planning process encourages organizations to determine a focus for their procedures, policies, and initiatives as informed by the assessment and input of stakeholders. Across sectors and professional fields, strategic plans are useful for identifying strengths to grow and anticipate changes to consider in light of current environmental trends and opportunities for advancement and further development. • Over a 10-month period, the School of Business participated in a strategic planning process that included conversations with various stakeholders, a review of internal data and environmental information, SWOT and gap analyses, identifying strategic objectives and action items, and refreshing the mission and vision. • SWOT analysis: The School conducted an in-depth analysis of its internal strengths, the areas which require further support, and an environmental evaluation of the opportunities and potential threats which exist outside of the School. > Strengths: Where are we excelling? > Weaknesses: What can we improve upon? > Opportunities: What new ventures can we explore? > Threats: What could threaten our opportunities and growth? > Gap analysis > Analysis of existing situation versus where we want to be What does our new Strategic Plan look like? • Stimulate growth and development of faculty to support graduate students as a community of scholars. • Foster a culture of innovation to support our students, faculty, and staff with a customized, flexible School of Business experience. • Implement best practices for supporting student success throughout the NCU experience. • Increase the visibility of the school through networking, partnerships, and innovative collaborations. • Diffuse diversity through all that we do. • Adopt a management framework for systems and processes to promote strategic, sustainable change and growth.
