S P R I N G 2 0 2 0 – I S S U E 5 3 SUPERVISOR SPOTLIGHT Joanna Dixon, LMFT Tell us about your clinical training/licensure, experience, and current work setting/location. I have been in private practice for 10 years and a supervisor for three years. I am an LMFT, am fully trained in EMDR, and incorporate the work of the Enneagram with all of my clients. While we all use a blend of treatment models, my models of choice are a blend of structural, experiential, and EFT. In my practice, we just moved into our first building that I purchased this summer — a 100+-year-old craftsman home that has five offices and a beautiful lobby, conference space, and, of course, we cannot forget the front porch swing where some clients prefer to meet! Describe your supervision style in three words. Supportive, outside-of-the-box, challenging What do you like to do outside of therapy and supervision? As a wife and momma of four (the most recent one came in February), my life outside therapy is glamorous and full of soccer practice and gymnastics classes. My husband and I are very intentional about dating and, being in the Nashville area, we hit up new restaurants (we're foodies) and try to take long weekend trips as often as possible! We love Boston, Chicago, the New England area/Maine (#clamchowder), and went to Vegas last November. What general reflections do you have about working with NCU students and/or faculty? Having worked with many different graduate students — don't tell the others — but NCU is hands down my favorite program and have been my favorite students. The preparedness they come with, the self-drive and strong support they receive by the staff shows! I love as a supervisor with NCU that I feel supported and trusted but not hovered over. The programs you use for online sign-offs and hour approval are very efficient and user-friendly. I love that because none of the requests or programs ever "waste my time." It is easily accessed and never overwhelming. The preparation of your students for getting out there after their internships and coursework is on point, and I prioritize the option of taking NCU students!
