On February 23 of this year, Amaud Arbery was one year older than my son when he
was chased down and killed by two white supremacists while he was out for a simple jog.
The grief and frustration that consumed me upon learning of the tragic death prompted me
to show support for his life by participating in the 2.23 mile #IRunwithMaud event held to
commemorate his birthday. Both Provost LaNear and Dr. Thomas Stewart, president of JFK
University, agreed to participate in their respective cities. Their willingness to participate
without hesitation was a sign of support from leaders who recognize that your actions
always speak louder than your words.
