Judith Cannon, PhD Full-Time Faculty, Department of Marriage and Family Sciences Dr. Cannon began teaching at NCU in 2017 as an adjunct professor and transitioned to full-time faculty in 2019. She earned her PhD and MA in Marriage and Family Therapy from Texas Woman's University. She also earned a BA in psychology from the University of California, Riverside. Dr. Cannon has been a marriage and family therapist for 32 years and is licensed in Texas and California. She has recently become an AAMF- approved supervisor. In addition to teaching, she has a small private practice. Dr. Cannon primarily teaches MAMFT Foundation courses, MFT-5101, MFT-5104, and MFT-5105, and leads supervision groups for practicum and internship students. She loves working with students as they begin their MFT academic journey and as they begin their clinical work and move toward graduation. She also enjoys teaching MFT-6105, MFT- 6201, MFT-6510, MFT-6511, MFT-6540, and MFT-6541. Research interests for Dr. Cannon focus on LGBTQIA+ issues. She is currently part of a research team here at NCU exploring the mental health experiences and needs of trans, non-binary, and gender expansive people. Dr. Cannon grew up in Alabama, accompanied her military husband around the country for 10 years, lived in Texas for 36 years, and moved to California six years ago. She has two grown children and two grandchildren. She and her partner Sylva have been together 22 years and have a 17-year-old daughter who will be heading to UCLA in the fall. Dr. Cannon and her family enjoy reading and outdoor activities. 3 Faculty SPOTLIGHT
