5. Follow up with students who are struggling. Reaching out via email to students who have been having a difficult time, either in school or personally, can help them to know you care about them and their success. I have also found it really helpful to connect students with other members of their team and let them know there is a group of dedicated staff there to support them. When we have a breakthrough with a student who has been struggling, our efforts matter. When we take the time to explain an idea in a way that helps the student – it matters. When we recognize that we have done our best, even if it appears things may not change – it matters. 6
