In addition, I hope that 2021 is the year that we start developing a MS in Mental Health Counseling program, which we hope will eventually be CACREP accredited. I am sure there will be many more projects that we will work on in 2021, so stay tuned. Darren Adamson, PhD Chair, Department of Marriage and Family Sciences Greetings to each of you at the beginning of a new year! 2020 was a very challenging year in many ways. It was full of transitions. We went from what felt like a relatively safe and predictable life to one filled with threats related to a pandemic. Activities that were seemingly normal became risky. Barriers between people became more necessary and very commonplace. Despite all of these efforts, many people across the world have been affected directly by the COVID-19 Pandemic. In the United States, we have seen much societal upheaval as we have come to know more about historical and current social injustice. We have seen some signs of change that may, hopefully as we all try to do things differently, make for a more equitable society for all citizens. There are two transitions that have hit very close to home in the DMFS community. One of these is a partial transition and the other is more permanent. First, Tom Matta moved into semi-retirement as of January 8, 2020. He has been with NCU for many years and has very generously shared his expertise in MFT practice and in MFT teaching along with his warmth as a loving human being. He has influenced many lives over the years of his career, working as a therapist, EAP Professional, board member (AMFTRB and PA licensure board), clinical supervisor, professor, Faculty Senator, and presenter. All of these experiences have come together in amazing ways in his work at NCU. Tom will remain on the faculty in a 13
