Yulia Watters, PhD Curriculum Director, SSBS Happy New Year 2021! I am hoping that you had a peaceful and joyful holiday season with your family and friends. We have another busy curriculum development year ahead of us. As we about to start with our January kickoffs, I wanted to present a quick overview of the curriculum development process. • Step 1: An SME is assigned based on the content expertise to revise/ develop a course and complete an SME training if necessary. The load reduction is put in place for full time faculty. • Step 2: Teaching faculty provide feedback using the course revision JotForm • Step 3: The SME works with the Curriculum and Assessment Director to revise/develop a course description, course learning outcomes, and course concepts and presents it in a CLOP form. • Step 4: The School Level Curriculum and Assessment Committee approves the CLOP. • Step 5: An Instructional Designer is assigned to work with the SME and contacts the SME to schedule a kickoff meeting. • Step 6: A kickoff meeting takes place: school vision of the course and the development schedule are discussed during the meeting (regular timeline 12 weeks, 60h for a major revision, 75h for a new course development). • Step 7: SME has a week to deliver a course outline (reviewed and approved by the school). • Step 8: SME has 4-5 weeks to deliver the first draft (reviewed and approved by the school). • Step 9: SME works with the ID to finalize the draft (interactives are put in place and the course is reviewed by the editor). The school reviews and approves the final draft. • Step 10: The course is built in the system. A task fee payment is processed for part time faculty. • Step 11: Curriculum Director reviews the course and approves the course to go live. I am looking forward to working alongside with you. As always, please do not hesitate to reach out with any questions (ywatters@ncu.edu). 10
