Everywhere Chuck went he was a leader and an influence for positive change. In memory of Chuck, who passed away on December 20, 2020 after a courageous battle with gallbladder cancer, the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences has established the Chuck K. West Memorial Award. Dr. West was an active leader in MFT at NCU at a time when the field of marriage and family therapy was not only opposed to online education but was actively resistant to the accreditation of such programs. The spirit of innovation in marriage and family therapy education was at the heart of this NCU group, and Dr. West was no exception. Chuck served everyday with passion and humility, always ready with a kind word, helping hand, and a warm smile. Regardless of the size of the task, Chuck managed it with professionalism and grace. This award will be given each year to a member of the SSBS team who embodies these same attributes of hard work, leadership, innovation, professionalism, rigor, humility, passion, and helpfulness in all that they do.
