10 DEPARTMENT UPDATES Library Spotlight Hi, Members of the NCU Psychology Association! I want to provide you with some updates from the Psychology Department. I want to start with sharing some personnel changes with you. In November of last year, Dr. Melinda Mull came over from the SBSS Department, where she was the Associate Director of Faculty Support and Development, to join us as the Associate Department Chair. Dr. Maria Rodriguez, the lead faculty for the Health Psychology programs, left the Department of Psychology in December 2020 to become the new Associate Director of Faculty Support and Development. Please join me in congratulating Dr. Mull and Dr. Rodriguez. In addition, in December 2020, we were able to hire two additional full-time faculty members, Dr. Madia Levin and Dr. Donna Smith. Dr. Levin's expertise is in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, and Dr. Smith's focus is teaching research courses and chairing dissertations. This February, we hired Dr. Sherry Rieder as a full-time faculty member. Her expertise is in Health Psychology, and she is the new program lead for the Health Psychology programs. All are very distinguished professors. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Madia Levin, Dr. Donna Smith, and Dr. Sherry Rieder. Let us now look forward to our plans for this year. We started revising the Ph.D. specialization in Trauma and Disaster Relief. See the revised course sequence below. PSY-8110 - Psychology of Violence PSY-8320 - Psychology of Traumatic Stress PSY-8322 - Disaster, Terrorism, and Mass Violence: Impacts on Mental Health PSY-8323 - Trauma-informed Assessment, Risk, and Diagnosis PSY-8324 - Trauma-informed Interventions with Disaster and Trauma Survivors PSY-8325 - Gender and Cultural Considerations in Disaster Trauma and Response We are also looking into revising our current MS in Forensic Psychology program. In addition, I hope that 2021 is the year that we start developing a MS in Mental Health Counseling program, which we hope will eventually be CACREP-accredited. I am sure there will be many more projects that we will work on in 2021, so stay tuned. I hope you will have a wonderful spring with much academic success and achievements. Let's make it a great 2021! Bettina Shapira, Ph.D. Department Chair, Department of Psychology Bettina Shapira, PhD The Psychology Bulletin
