Greetings, students! My name is Mindi Mull, and I am the associate chair for the psychology department. I would like to tell you a bit about myself and explain my role in the department so you have a better understanding of how I can support you. My PhD is in developmental psychology, which I earned in 2001 from the University of Toledo. My research interests focus on how children develop a theory of mind (look it up if you don't know what this is — it's fascinating!), as well as best practices for teaching and learning. I have been with NCU since 2013 and love working with NCU students! I have taught Foundations courses and also serve on dissertation committees in the psychology department. My primary role in the department is to support students. I collaborate closely with Dr. Bettina Shapira (department chair) and our wonderful team of academic and finance advisors (AFAs) to determine the best way to support students in need. I think it is safe to say almost all graduate students need extra support at some point during their program. Even in the best of times, graduate school is hard! But, of course, sometimes life happens and can make it even more difficult. Please know we are in your corner and want you to succeed! Please don't ever hesitate to ask for extra support, should you ever need it. Your AFA is a wonderful resource, but you can also reach out to me directly. NCU has many resources designed to offer additional support to students. I am happy to work with you to determine how you may benefit from these resources. There may be times you wonder if all this hard work is worth it. Trust me, it is! I remember the struggles I faced while I was in graduate school, and looking back, I am so glad I persevered. Earning your advanced degree will not only allow you to improve your life and that of your family, but also allow you to take what you've learned into your workplace and community to improve the lives of others. Your hard work is commendable, so keep it up! And again, should you ever find yourself needing some extra support, please reach out! We want to support you in any way we can. Sincerely, Dr. Mindi Mull Associate Chair, Department of Psychology Associate Chair Spotlight Mindi Mull, PhD 13 NCUPA Fall Bulletin
