9 questions if any arise and taking Sunday off to rest and engage in self-care, before starting the next week on Monday. I share that this structure has a few benefits: it feels less overwhelming to spread the work out throughout the week, but most importantly, it allows for retaining knowledge and applying the ideas from the readings to their current work or relationships. Students that have followed this structure report it being very helpful in time management and breaking the week down in smaller pieces. • Lastly, I go through the entire course content, week by week, in this meeting. I find that I can give some pointers, suggestions on time management, and any "heads up" to assignments that may require additional planning. I notice that when I do this with students, they have far less questions each week. • I send out mid-way course emails to students, checking in on how the course is progressing and if they need any assistance. This reach out is a wonderful time to get a sense of how things are going for the student and invites them to discuss any areas they may need help. • In my feedback during grading, I love the sticky notes. I find that leaving comments throughout the assignment allow for dialogue in my feedback rather than just leaving a summary. Maria Rodriguez, PhD and Siva Perera, PhD, LMFT Associate Directors of Faculty Support and Development, SSBS Happy New Year! Thank you to our wonderful colleagues, Jamie and Sharon for sharing some practical teaching tips with us. Jamie talks about focusing on providing effective feedback with an emphasis on student strengths. The steps she takes to achieve this goal is detailed and helpful and certainly ones we can all benefit from. Sharon's ideas revolve around the logistical aspects of supporting students with plenty of useful tips included. We hope you all find both Jamie and Sharon's contribution helpful! Do you have an approach, strategy, or idea you think others would find useful or interesting? Please share! You can send your ideas to Maria (mrodriguez@ncu.edu) or Siva (sperera@ncu.edu) and we would be happy to include them in an upcoming faculty newsletter. Thanks!
