S P R I N G 2 0 22 – I S S U E 9 17 In addition to the quantitative data collected, interns are also asked to provide qualitative reflections. Here are some examples of what interns are saying about you. "I appreciate [Supervisor]'s supervision style. She encourages & challenges me to own my conceptualizations, thinking, & planning. She gives me a broad range & scope of therapy modalities & techniques to try out, sometimes tending toward more individual case management & less systemic but it may be the stage of therapy I am in with some of my clients." "I have received training, education and support that has helped me increase my understanding of my personal theory as well as the larger scope of marriage and family therapy. [Supervisor] clearly communicates expectations and is available for insight and input." "[Supervisor] has gone out of her way to make sure that I am appropriately educated as a therapist and have all the information, resources, and knowledge I need to be successful. She is very attentive and answers questions professionally and educationally. She often offers resources and interventions to try with my clients. She has also given me paths to follow with clients and advice or tactics to try when watching/listening to my videos/audio for class requirements. She has never made me feel like I was bothering her or been impatient with my questions. She has offered support in a positive and professional manner and made my internship enjoyable." "[Supervisor] is constantly urging and helping his interns to gain continuing training and education. He makes himself available as a supervisor and has grown a lot in the last year that I've worked with him. He has substantial knowledge of EFT and IFS models of therapy and is urging and supporting us in being better clinicians. It has been one of the best growing experiences working in his practice." "As an MFT student, clinical professional competence was essential for my local supervisor because she wanted to understand what I am doing every time I engage with my clients. [Supervisor] and I met and spoke about the Transition Framework, which was the nature of transiting from a student to an MFT clinical student intern. We talked about awareness, engagement, preparation, and knowledge, interacting, and feeling connected. [Supervisor] also shared ways to provide safe care sessions and find the best options for the client when engaging in each session. She also addresses the understanding of self-evaluation while communicating with the clients. With those tools and guidance from my clinical supervisor, I have seen a significant improvement in my skills as a therapist, which allows my NCU clinical supervisor and my classmate to see me emerge within my model. [Supervisor] helps me see my ability as a therapist, enabling me to see the growth within my clients." "My local supervisor is very supportive and informative. She teaches me different ways to approach different situations. She is always available and constantly reminding me to advocate for myself." "[Supervisor] often provides me with reading materials, and other resources to review and provide feedback in regards to professional competence and she shares stories and experiences related to the cases I'm working with." "[Supervisor] doesn't give the answer, as a supervisor she steers you in the right direction and lets you answer it. For me this is the best way to learn. She gives clear direction for professional development and fully understands the ethics involved in decisions made, be it for the individual, client, and business. Her knowledge of policy and procedures is extremely helpful as is her use of them when educating this student on expectations and methods of dealing with clients. She is diligent about what one should expect in a session and what is necessary for the clinician (Myself) to have accomplished in the scope of the work performed."
