SSBS PROGRAM INFORMATION AND UPDATES Welcome New Team Members At the beginning of 2022 we welcomed two new team members. We are excited to have them join the Clinical Administrative Training Team! S P R I N G 2 0 22 – I S S U E 9 3 Associate Director of Doctoral Clinical Training— Dr. Emily Schmittel, LMFT Tell us about yourself. My husband and I moved to Springfield, Missouri, to raise our children close to family. While most of my free time is spent playing with my two daughters (1 and 3), I also enjoy training for road and trail races, eating brunch, and finding new ways to brew coffee at home. In addition to my NCU position, I provide local supervision and supervision mentoring to several NCU graduates. My clinical and research interests are on complex trauma, child welfare involved families, and telesupervision. What drew you to the position? I have worked with NCU doctoral students for a couple years and have been continually impressed with their passion for the MFT field and systemic practice. I wanted to be more involved in helping them plan their clinical training portion of the program, knowing the significant impact they have on their local communities. What are you hoping to bring to/change about the clinical training process you are a part of? As I step into this new role, my goals are to encourage planning of doctoral clinical training as early as possible in the program and to help ensure students have all the information they need to do this. I plan to continue refining doctoral clinical training approval processes so they are as efficient as possible. What do you appreciate about working with NCU students? NCU students are doing amazing work in their local communities. They are using what they learn from their course work to enhance the services that, in many cases, they are already providing. They often have clear passions for a population or set of presenting issues and well-formulated career goals.
