Hi everyone and happy fall, I hope you are enjoying this time of the year. As Northcentral University is merging with National University, the Department of Psychology will merge with the JFK School of Psychology at National University and become the JFK School of Psychology and Social Sciences. The merger will mean for us that we will have additional students, programs, and faculty, as well as administrative staff. This is very exciting and will provide us with a plethora of new opportunities! Because we are at this pivotal part in the merger, I want to take the opportunity to look back at our journey at Northcentral University. Northcentral University was founded in 1998 with two academic departments: Psychology and Business and Technology Management. The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools authorized the University to confer degrees in Psychology in 2003, including the Doctor of Philosophy in Psychology (PhD-PSY). The PhD-PSY originally offered three specializations: General Psychology, Industrial/ Organizational Psychology, and Behavioral and Health Medicine. Currently, we offer 10 different PhD-PSY specializations. The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools also authorized Northcentral University to offer the Master of Arts in Psychology [MAPSY] program in 2003. In 2005, the MAPSY program had four specializations: General Psychology, Health Psychology, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, and Gender Diversity Studies. Until 2015, we had a School of Psychology and a School of Marriage and Family Sciences. In October of 2015, it was decided that merging the Schools of Marriage and Family Sciences and Psychology into one school, the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, would provide broader support and additional resources for the continued success of both. This change created a school with over 2,500 students (bachelor's, master's, and doctoral). In 2016, the first Master of Science Program, the MS in Forensic Psychology, was created. In the following year, MS in Health, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Child and Adolescent Developmental Psychology, and Educational Psychology were added.
