Daimon Verace, PhD and Lindsay Wright, PhD NCU PA History The current NCUPA started as the Psychology Club, which was organized by students as early as 2017. This group, which had a faculty advisor, was primarily run by students and existed as a group in the Commons. The students in the group worked to develop scholarly events and engage students and professors in monthly events online where you might hear a speaker give a presentation on an area of psychology. For psychology students, this was one of the earlier "meeting" forums with students and faculty to increase engagement. In 2018, Dr. Wright became the faculty liaison for the Psychology Club and worked to reconstruct and strengthen the club to increase membership and engagement as well as establish a clear mission. In 2018, the Psychology Club also began producing a quarterly newsletter. Dr. Verace also joined as a faculty liaison in late 2018 and the club became increasingly faculty lead, with a complete restart as the Northcentral University Psychological Association (NCUPA) in 2019. The new mission statement became: "To assist psychology students in becoming ethically informed professionals and scholars…[and] promoting opportunities for student and faculty engagement in the field of psychology around academic resources, research inquiry, and professional activities, specifically to foster quality in scholarship and inspire the development of academic excellence in the student-professional experience … through various opportunities, including a bulletin, presentations, and panel discussions." Under the new organizational name, leadership, and mission, the NCUPA began to focus on providing regularly scheduled webinars and newsletters emphasizing student inclusion, engagement, and mentorship. Topics covered in both webinars included Work-Life Balance (Dr. Streit), Setting Up a Feasible Dissertation (Dr. Heather Miller), Developing a Research Problem in Relation to Synthesis (Dr. Richard Remedios), Reliability and Validity in Quantitative and Qualitative Research (Drs. Linda Bloomberg, Madia Levin, and Richard Remedios), Student Experiences With Dissertation Panel Presentation (Valerie Lovegreen, Corey Sanders, Eloise Thomas), Literature Review — Basic (Dr. MacDonald), Literature Review — Intermediate (Dr. Kohlman), Literature Review — Advanced (Dr. Ackerman), and Building Professionalism As a Graduate Student (Drs. MacDonald and Rodriguez). There were also panels on Masters in Psychology Internship Overview (Drs. Wright, Teeter, MacDonald, and Rodriguez), and Dissertation Faculty Q&A Panel (Drs. Ackerman and Pavone). Quarterly newsletters were also initiated in May of 2019, and included faculty and student editors. Each newsletter covered topics ranging from student experiences with dissertations, faculty research around social justice, trauma recovery, and a variety of other faculty and student interests. A database for all of these resources was established in the library. 4 Northcentral University Psychology Bulletin
