Becoming a marriage and family therapist is more than a job—it's a lifelong commitment to service, and a career focused on helping individuals, couples and families navigate the natural challenges of life to become stronger. North- central University's School of Marriage and Family Sciences provides online Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) doctoral, master's and certificate programs that prepare competent, cultural- ly sensitive marriage and family therapy professionals. While the coursework compo- nent of our MFT programs is delivered online, you're able to receive invaluable face-to-face client interaction through practi- cums and internships in your local community under the direction of an approved clinical supervisor. Student Learning Outcomes The School of Marriage and Family Sciences is committed to preparing you to make ethical and professional contributions in your chosen field of study by establish- ing student learning outcomes that help ensure you acquire the knowl- edge, skills, and competencies required of a global community. The following student learning outcomes are used for the MFT degree programs: PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy • Model sensitivity and competence in working with diverse populations in academic, clinical, supervision and research settings. • Appraise clinical skills and ethical behaviors in systemic therapy and supervision. • Create new knowledge in marriage and family therapy through indepen- dent research. • Develop professional expertise in an area of specialization related to the field of marriage and family therapy. Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy • Employ sensitivity and competence in working with diverse populations in clinical settings. • Apply family systems oriented clinical skills across a variety of contexts. • Contrast family systems theory oriented models of therapy. • Formulate a decision-making process for ethical dilemmas congruent with the AAMFT Code of Ethics.
