Department Updates I hope everyone had a great year and a wonderful holiday season! This past year was exciting, and I would like to thank all of you. With a lot of pride and thankfulness, I am happy to announce that the Master of Science in Forensic Psychology went live on December 12, 2016. We are very excited, because this is the first time the Department of Psychology is offering a master's of science program. We are pleased to announce that at the culmination of their academic journey, students in this program will have the choice between a Capstone or an internship course. We developed an Internship Handbook, which provides students great support prior to, and throughout, the internship experience. We welcome a new full-time Foundations Faculty member, Dr. Lindsay Wright. Dr. Wright is a Forensic Psychologist and was a driving force in creating the new Master of Science in Forensic Psychology program. We are moving forward with revising our current 36-credits MAPSY specializations in Industrial/Organizational Psychology and Health Psychology to 30 credit Master of Science degrees in I/O Psychology and Health Psychology. Similar to the MS in Forensic Psychology, the new MS Degrees in I/O Psychology and Health Psychology will provide students with the choice of a Capstone course or an internship course at the end of their program. Bettina Shapira, PhD | Chair, Department of Psychology The department is also creating a new Master of Science program in Child and Adolescent Developmental Psychology. Similar to the other MS programs, the MS in Child and Adolescent Developmental Psychology will be a 30 credit program where students will have the choice of a Capstone course or an internship course at the end of their program. We will soon be ready to seek approval for the new programs from the Department of Education. As you might have noticed, we are changing the Comprehensive Examination process. In the past, students took a 12 week [four question] Comprehensive Examination. We are changing the process, giving students who started their PhD program prior to December 12, 2016, the choice between an eight week [three question] Comprehensive Examination course or an eight week Pre-Candidacy Prospectus course. All students who start their PhD after December 12, 2016, must take the eight week Pre-Candidacy Prospectus course. We created the Pre-Candidacy Prospectus course to best prepare students for the new dissertation sequence. Happy New Year to all of you!
