Yulia Watters, PhD | Curriculum Director, SSBS Hello! I thought it would be helpful to provide an overview of some changes that have occurred with the curriculum development process this year. Working with the ID Team on Course Development: The Curriculum Director and the assigned SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) started to work more closely with the Instructional Design (ID) team while creating new courses and completing the revisions of existing courses. The structure of the ID team changed with the appointment of the Senior Director of Curriculum Development and creation of the ID team: Structure of the ID Team: 1. Senior Director of Curriculum Development - Chris Dunham 2. Curriculum Faculty Liaison – Jeannine Klein 3. Senior IDs – Cari Crumly and Brian Endfinger 4. The ID team: Trenton Mabey, Kendi Judy, Mandy McHaney, Douglas Brtek The IDs are currently assigned projects and work across Schools based on the existing needs. To start the course development process, the IDs usually schedule a kick-off meeting with all involved parties to establish the timeline for the course development and outline expectations. The Curriculum Director and the Program Directors, and sometimes Department Chairs, also work closely with the IDs to oversee the development and/or revision of courses. New Expectations in Curriculum Development: Please see below for the timeline of the new curriculum development process: 1. SME training needs to be completed before any curriculum-related project • The training is completed only once (i.e., not before each curriculum project) and outlines the expectations regarding the course template, resources, and additional materials that need to be included in the course. 2. Course description and CLOs are approved by the Assessment Committee. 3. Course template is approved. 4. Then, the SME works closely with the ID and Curriculum Director to complete the syllabus. When SMEs are developing/revising courses, they can work with Taylor Duncan (Instructional Design Librarian) to ensure the chosen resources are appropriate. All resources should either be available in the NCU Library, RedShelf, or created by the SME. SMEs are also now expected to create additional course materials during the course development process. These include: Course Map, Faculty Teaching Guide, and Course Welcome Letter.
