Siva is originally from Sri Lanka and came to the United States to pursue her undergraduate degree.
She went on to obtain her Master's and PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy from Nova Southeastern
University in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. For her dissertation, she utilized autoethnographic and
ethnographic methodologies and conducted a qualitative study, which explored in-depth the
transformative experiences of Asian female international students living in a state of
cultural transition.
Siva has been with NCU since 2013 and teaches a wide variety of core
and specialization courses. She also maintains a small clinical
practice. With a lot of support from colleagues, she recently
launched a group in The Commons for NCU International and
English as a Second Language students. Her clinical and
research interests include multicultural and international
family therapy, acculturation, ethnicity, and qualitative
methodologies. She is a licensed marriage and family
therapist in the state of Florida and also a certified clinical
hypnotherapist.
Siva and her husband, Nemal love to travel but they are very
much homebound after the birth of their son, Rishi and
daughter, Teja. Now they enjoy hosting play dates and trying
out new restaurants!
