Student Spotlight On… Dr. Mellonee McDonald My doctoral journey started in August 2014 with Northcentral University, only a few months after completion of my Master of Business Administration with a concentration in health care management. I decided to embark on my doctoral journey without taking much time off and chose Northcentral University based on the curriculum offered and the one-to-one mentoring experience. I have always wanted to be a part of the healthcare industry but from a managerial standpoint since I do not handle the clinical aspects of the medical field well. The healthcare industry will always be in demand, and I want to make a positive impact in the lives of others. The educational experience at Northcentral University was great, and the workload was not overbearing. The professors responded promptly if there were any questions or concerns with the assignments. The doctoral studies took a lot of hard work and dedication to completing all the required sections. However, the way the doctoral studies are implemented, the student is able to complete individual sections and build on each previous section to complete the dissertation manuscript. The main thing is that the student must stay dedicated and focused and know that even though it may seem challenging, they can finish and get through all the requirements. The most enjoyable part about my doctoral studies was the opportunity to research a topic area that one day may make changes in the nursing home industry. Also, my dissertation chair and committee were wonderful and offered feedback and support as it was needed. The doctoral program will impact my future career in a positive way as it will allow me to establish a long-term career within the healthcare industry. The doctoral studies provided me the ability to expand my education regarding the health service administration industry, and one day the studies will help me to make positive changes in the healthcare industry.
