Dr. Deborah Circo serves in multiple roles within the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences, including dissertation director, psychology professor, faculty senator and dissertation chair. She has more than 20 years of experience in administrative and academic leadership, and teaching and mentoring graduate students. As dissertation chair, Dr. Circo thoroughly enjoys mentoring students to become scholars in the field of psychology. "The most gratifying part for me is developing close relationships with students," she said. "These relationships have continued after graduation as I have had the honor of publishing journal articles with my former students. Their passion for their topics, and enthusiasm for the dissertation process, is an emotional as well as an intellectual process. I feel so fortunate to be a part of such an amazing experience." Dr. Circo makes a point of always being there for her students along their journey. "I understand the sacrifice that is needed in completing a doctoral program, while also working full-time and managing a host of other commitments. Obtaining a doctorate can open so many doors, and provide so many new opportunities. I encourage all my students to reach for the stars and realize their dream of having a doctorate in psychology, as I am right beside them in supporting their success every step of the way." Dr. Circo earned both her Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and her Master in Social Work (MSW) at the University of Nebraska-Omaha, and both her Master of Science in Psychology and PhD in Developmental Psychology at the University of Nebraska.
