As the dust settles on another work week, I remember fondly when Friday meant a night of
adventure and hanging out with friends. Instead, those adventurous Friday nights have given
way to a kitchen table littered with research articles and electronic textbooks. Such is the life
of a PhD student in the Marriage and Family Therapy program.
Recently, I started my third year of classes determined to conquer MFT7105. As potential
dissertation topics continued to dance in my head, I think back over my journey at
Northcentral University. At the end of my Master's program, I decided to take a year break
to give some attention to my family. Two of my children had been born during that time, and
I wanted to be a dad for a season before working on a PhD. That one year soon turned into
eight. I started the program the Monday after my oldest son graduated high school.
I explored a few programs before deciding on Northcentral. The deciding factor was that the
program was fully accredited and completely online. Although I wanted to return to school, I
did not want to have to leave my full-time job. I was also fortunate to learn that many of the
faculty members were local.
