26 | Faculty Teaching Responsibilities | NCU Faculty Handbook Bulk Loading The University defines "bulk loading" as submitting subsequent or multiple assignments before receiving feedback on a current assignment. Bulk loading assignments is discouraged as students do not have the opportunity to process and incorporate faculty feedback in subsequent assignments; however, the University understands that in some circumstances bulk loading may be necessary (e.g., military deployment, late grading and feedback, etc.). Faculty are encouraged to work with students to determine if and when bulk-loading assignments is appropriate. Grading Late Work Assignments submitted seven or more days beyond the original due date will not be accepted. For late assignments submitted prior to this deadline, faculty may establish their own guidelines for acceptance and grading penalties for late work. In the event of a natural disaster or University-wide technology outage, faculty may opt to accept work more than seven days beyond the original due date. Assignment Resubmission Faculty are given the discretion to allow and request resubmission of any assignment, with these provisos: • Comprehensive Exam courses are excluded. • The policy that assignments may not be submitted after a course end date or approved course extension end date may not be violated. Students may decline to resubmit assignments at their discretion. Faculty may not request resubmissions in cases of suspected Academic Integrity Violations (AIV). If there is a suspected AIV, see Academic Integrity and the Use of Turnitin section below. The primary purpose of the resubmission request is to provide students with additional opportunities for learning and guidance in acquiring the skills and knowledge needed for successful program completion. The secondary purpose is to give students an opportunity to improve a grade. When making a resubmission request, faculty should be accompanied the following: 1. Due date for resubmission with a clear statement that the new due date is non- negotiable. 2. The reason for requesting or offering a resubmission. 3. Clear instructions/feedback on how to improve the assignment. 4. An account of what will occur if the student does not resubmit the assignment by the resubmission due date. a. Example: "If you do not resubmit the paper by the resubmission due date, I will grade and give feedback on your original submission." Faculty may, at their discretion, give feedback and grade the original assignment and offer a resubmission opportunity. If offering an opportunity for resubmission, faculty are not required to grade an original assignment, however they should be prepared to provide an answer regarding what grade would be earned on the original assignment. If faculty do not grade and provide feedback on an original assignment when requesting a resubmission and the student chooses not to resubmit, faculty must grade and provide feedback on the original submission.
