NCU Faculty Handbook | Faculty Employment | 51 Qualifications to Teach Undergraduate and Graduate Courses All teaching faculty are required to hold a doctorate in their field. Faculty teaching courses must also possess credentials that align with programmatic accreditation, as appropriate and warranted by the specific accreditor. To teach courses not clearly aligned with a doctoral degree, faculty must provide documentation that they have earned 18 graduate credit hours in the area of specialization, or licensure in the proposed area of teaching. Deans may also allow faculty to teach specific courses based on professional or other teaching experience. Qualifications to Serve on Doctoral Committees To serve on a Doctoral Committee either as the Chair or a Subject Matter Expert, faculty must have: • Successfully completed their doctoral degree program at a regionally accredited institution; • Demonstrated record of research or doctoral level teaching; • Successfully completed all required training related to working with doctoral students at NCU. Faculty serving as Dissertation Chairs may chair doctoral Dissertation Committees for students aligned to their disciplinary certifications and professional experiences. Onboarding and the Role of the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) Faculty Hired to Teach Once the CTL receives notification from Human Resources that a faculty member has completed the hiring process and has a hire date, the following occurs: 1. Human Resources notifies CTL, IT Service Desk, and Respective School of new hire 2. All faculty accounts are created and CTL enrolls faculty into the onboarding training series 1. CTL5000 Welcome to NCU 2. CTL5001 Teaching and NCU 3. CTL5002 Engaging Your Students 4. CTL5003 Doctoral Student Experience 3. After the faculty member successfully completes the training courses, the training tracker is updated and CTL notifies Faculty Scheduling and the respective school that the faculty member is ready to be scheduled students. Updating Personal Data and Documentation It is the responsibility of each faculty member to ensure that Northcentral University has regularly updated copies of the following documents: • Official copies of all graduate transcripts to Human Resources. • Official – or notarized – hard copies of all credentials attained subsequent to your graduate work. Please note that if you are teaching courses that are not aligned with your doctoral degree, you must provide documentation of 18 graduate credit hours or licensure in the area you are teaching. For example, if you have a DBA in computer systems, but wish to teach in accounting, you must document that you have the equivalent of 18 graduate credit hours in accounting.
