NCU Faculty Handbook | Faculty Non-Teaching Roles and Responsibilities | 35 School Adjunct Councils The purpose of School Adjunct Councils is to ensure open communication, and to provide a channel for input between and among adjunct faculty and their School Leadership. School Adjunct Council members serve for two year terms and receive a stipend for their service. Each School has its own School Adjunct Council. Each disciplinary School elects three part-time faculty members for their respective Adjunct Councils. Then, each School Adjunct Council elects a Chair from its members. These chairpersons (one from each school) become members of the Faculty Senate. Council members will be elected for two year terms following a process outlined and monitored by the Office of Academic Affairs in consultation with School Deans. The Office of the Provost and Senior Leadership Team (SLT) authorize resources for the Councils needed to do their work, as appropriate. Academic Affairs Committee (AAC) The purpose of the AAC is to provide advice, counsel, direction, and decision recommendations for all academic matters at Northcentral University. All AAC- approved policies and procedures are forwarded to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) for final consideration. The AAC is required to meet a minimum of six times per year. The Office of the Registrar maintains minutes for all AAC meetings. The AAC fosters and recommends policies that promote standards of academic quality consistent with the University's mission and vision. In particular, the AAC reviews and recommends policies and procedures that relate to the University faculty, their qualifications, professional development and work life; University curriculum, its content and its quality; academic technology and its use in the teaching and learning activities of the University; and the review, assessment and on-going improvement of academic programs and student learning. The AAC has the following standing Subcommittees: • Assessment Committee • Curriculum Committee • Common Components Committee The AAC is chaired by the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs or his/her designee. Voting members include full-time and part-time faculty members of the Faculty Senate, as well as Academic Program Chairs and other academic administrators. The Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs votes only in circumstances where a tie-breaker is required. Other non-voting faculty or team members may also be invited to participate in committee discussions on a case-by-case basis. Institutional Review Board (IRB) The primary purpose of Northcentral University's Institutional Review Board (IRB) is to protect participants from undue risk and ensure the safety, welfare, rights, and dignity of all research participants. The IRB is responsible for ensuring that all research involving human research participants follows federal regulations outlined by Title 45, Part 46, and Code of Federal Regulations and the ethical principles set forth in the Belmont Report. Therefore, all research conducted by Northcentral faculty, staff, and students must be reviewed and approved by Northcentral's IRB. IRB approval must be obtained before any recruitment, contact with potential participants, or data collection commences. Members are appointed to the IRB Full Board pursuant to the process outlined in the IRB Policy, which is available in the NCU Catalog. For more information on the IRB review process, please consult the Dissertation Center or IRBManager. Other questions should be sent to irb@ncu.edu.
