62 | Faculty and Student Services and Support | NCU Faculty Handbook SECTION 8: FACULTY AND STUDENT SERVICES AND SUPPORT Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) provides students and faculty with training courses and supporting resources, webinars, and micro-workshops to enhance the student learning process. CTL Mission The CTL promotes effective teaching and enhanced student learning by encouraging and supporting faculty efforts to explore the teaching and learning process. Such explorations include the advancement of pedagogical skills, constructive feedback and engagement, and the use of instructional technologies. Working in collaboration with other academic service units, the CTL promotes and strives to demonstrate excellence in service to all members of the Northcentral University community. CTL Vision The CTL is dedicated to supporting/advancing teaching and learning by working collaboratively with faculty, staff, administrators, and students to provide quality services, resources, and programs to improve the overall Northcentral University experience. The CTL is a catalyst to a positive and collaborative university culture. The CTL provides resources and programs to: • Provide University-wide leadership and coordination of activities aimed at supporting excellence in teaching. • Support the University mission by promoting the engagement of students in the learning process and assisting faculty and other stakeholders to integrate cutting edge technology to enhance learning experience. • Support training pertaining to and for academic units of the University. • Nurture a culture of commitment to student learning that stimulates dialogue, and fosters a sense of community among faculty. The CTL is dedicated to ensuring the academic success of every student and to providing faculty the necessary tools and resources to excel in teaching. Our ultimate goal is the creation of a culture of engagement, where students become fully engaged in the learning process, both with their instructors and with their peers; and where faculty from diverse disciplines can engage one another in the pedagogy of teaching, with the ultimate goal of enhancing student learning. The Commons The Commons is the internal virtual space for the NCU community—students, faculty and team members—to meet, contribute and share ideas and support outside of the classroom. It is an academic engagement platform available online to students and faculty 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Commons gives members an opportunity to be directly connected to and participate in University-wide and School-specific communities. Boot Camps for Students NCU Dissertation Boot Camp consists of two and a half days of intense, critical thinking training, development of successful, doctoral acumen, support for research study alignment and feasibility, modeling the use of research methods, and providing students the tools necessary to complete their dissertation. NCU faculty work alongside students individually and in cohorts to help answer questions, explain program and dissertation processes and expectations, and help students gain the confidence and drive necessary to complete their doctoral journey. Boot camp faculty pay special attention to building on the foundation students already have,
