Pursuit of Research Series: Purpose of Research. Dora also serves as Editorial Assistant of the Journal of Education and Learning (http://www.ccsenet.org/jel) pro bono. Dora oversees numerous innovations in curriculum, including spearheading a recent major revision for a graduate positive psychology course. She values her background and experience in psychology and counseling as contributing to her success and leadership to help students stay motivated, engaged and organized as they continue their education or working on to the dissertation. Dora loves to garden and spend time with her family and pets on weekends. She has two rescued pups, Charlie and Frank. Dora also volunteers every Saturday with her daughter, a board-certified oncology pharmacist at a local equine center, helping veterans suffering from PTSD, TBIs, and children in need as part of the SPUR (Special People United to Ride) program http://www.spuronline.org/. Dora started her early research as part of her undergraduate experience at Monmouth University in 1982 where she developed a weekly therapeutic program with pets and older adults and residents of a nursing home. This research led to her continued work volunteering at the Florida Wildlife Center and following the work of Laurel Lagoni at Colorado State University while she was doing her research on the animal-human bond. Laurel co-founded the CSU Veterinary Teaching Hospital and wrote a book that inspired Dora, The Human Animal Bond. Since Dora started learning more about conservation and sustainability, she has rescued several domestic rabbits. Dora has a small private practice in New Jersey. LAUREN FIX, PHD, LMFT Adjunct Faculty, Department of Marriage and Family Sciences Lauren earned her PhD in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) from the University of Louisiana at Monroe (ULM). She also received her Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy and her Bachelor of Arts in English with a minor in Latin from ULM. She is an AAMFT Approved Supervisor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist Supervisor, and a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor in the State of Louisiana where she works part time in a local private practice seeing clients and conducting clinical supervision. Lauren works with individuals, couples and families with various presenting complaints. Lauren has a particular interest in the treatment of trauma and is trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). Her research interests include ethics and multiple relationships, and she is particularly interested in the process of ethical decision making and factors that influence these decisions for clinicians, supervisors and clinical instructors. Lauren has been with NCU since 2016 and currently teaches courses in the master's program including MFT-5102, MFT-6106, and the Foundations Courses. Personally, Lauren enjoys spending time with her husband of nearly 10 years and their two young sons.
