DISSERTATION COMPLETION PATHWAY:
NCU OFFERS A SECOND CHANCE FOR DOCTORAL CANDIDATES TO EARN THEIR DEGREE
It's no secret that many doctoral candidates never
complete the final step towards their coveted degree
and, instead, settle for a designation of the dreaded
ABD – a post-graduate acronym for "All but
Dissertation." To overcome this NCU recently
launched its Dissertation Completion Pathway (DCP) to
specifically help doctoral students who, due to
circumstances beyond their control, departed their
previous program prior to completion and are now
seeking opportunities to achieve their academic goals.
DCP evolved from an awareness of the problem and
from earlier efforts to help struggling students complete
the dissertation process, into its current form through
feedback from students and faculty.
DCP is designed for students who:
• Have completed their doctoral coursework, began
the dissertation process, but withdrew from the
program due to personal or professional
circumstances.
• Students who completed the dissertation
coursework, but withdrew from the program due to
personal or professional circumstances, and opted
for a migrating degree.

"We believe every doctoral
candidate should have the chance
to earn the right to be called
'Doctor'." "These students have
already worked very hard to
pursue their dreams and we're
proud to play a part in helping
them complete their dissertation
and attain their doctoral degree."

Graduate School at NCU
