2018-19 Here is a quick look at your fellow students who will be leading the SAC for the 2018-19 acadmic year: Carthel J. Towns, Sr.: Carthel is a PhD student in the Organizational Leadership program where he is working on his last class before he starts his dissertation coursework. As a resident of Los Angeles, CA, Carthel and his wife Tany of 24 years are busy raising their 15-year old twins (Carthel, Jr., and Trinity). Carthel is a bi-vocational pastor of a new church in Santa Clarita, CA and also works full-time as a financial advisor and real estate investor. He has an affinity for online learning, received his MBA (Financial Planning) from California Lutheran University and is a proud veteran of the United States Army. In his spare time, Carthel loves cycling, basketball, watching movies, cooking on one of his many outdoor grills, and hanging out with friends and family. Currently, Carthel serves as president of SAC for the 2018-19 academic year. Chelsy Smith: Chelsy is also a doctoral student studying Industrial and Organizational Psychology, one of the hottest specialties in organizational leadership (according to the U.S. Department of Labor and the Wall Steet Journal). She has a diverse educational background and has earned a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance (University of New Mexico) as well as a Master's of Science in Management (Arizona State University). Presently, Chelsy works in recreation management but hopes to someday teach and share her experiences with students in a higher education setting. Outside of work and school, she loves music, shoes and warm weather. Since its humble beginnings in 1996, NCU has grown to more than 10,000 students internationally (US News and World Report, 2016). One of its flagship schools is the School of Business. Embedded within the School of Business is the University's Community Exchange comprised of various Learning Communities designed to help students make meaningful connections, share their experiences, and receive feedback on classes. To that end, the School of Business created the Student Advisory Council (SAC). SAC is comprised of volunteers (students and alumni) who interface with the Dean's Office within the School of Business to improve the overall learning experience of School of Business students and alumni. The mission of SAC is, "To serve as a voice for the School of Business student body to address and implement proactive changes that will enhance the School of Business and the student experience" (NCU, 2018). MEET YOUR STUDENT ADVISORY COUNCIL 2018-19 Carthel Towns, Chelsy Smith, Frank Acosta, Kyle Long, and Matthew Hollandsworth are your School of Business SAC members for the 2018-19 academic year. They are five fantastic student volunteers who are motivated, committed, and well-qualified to lead the SAC in the coming months. As we say "Thank You" for their volunteer service, please join me in welcoming them to the SAC. The School of Business has identified four student initiatives for the 2018-19 academic year. The following SAC members have been appointed to spearhead the respective initiatives: • Doctoral Student Engagement Frank Acosta • Master's Student Engagement Kyle Long • NCU Diversity Committee Matthew Hollandsworth • Alumni Engagement Carthel Towns, Chelsy Smith
