Are you unsure how you'll fit a class schedule into your work schedule? Determining what kind of student you are can help you answer these questions and find the right university for you. Has it been a few years since you've been in class? STEP TWO Traditional student Traditional students enjoy the face-to-face interaction of a brick-and-mortar classroom setting. They also like having a pre-determined pace set for the course with deadlines, mid-terms and finals. Traditional students can usually attend class during the day and evening and have fewer non-school obligations. Students that fall into this category are typically: • First-time college students • Full-time students that don't work • Full-time students that work part-time Independent student Independent students prefer to work on their own and don't require a lot of interaction. While they might enjoy debate and discussion, they want to self-manage their time when it comes to reading and absorbing material. This type of student can adapt to a traditional class, but they like the freedom of hybrid or online courses. Students that fall into this category are typically: • First-time college students that are independent learners • Full-time students that have work or family obligations • Students enrolled in graduate programs Non-traditional student Non-traditional students tend to be working adults with a career and/or family. They can't typically attend class during normal business hours, and evening classes can be problematic as well, due to family obligations. This type of student has to adjust their personal learning style to fit their life, which often means taking hybrid and online courses.
