FACULTYSPOTLIGHT School FACULTYSPOTLIGHT School of Dr. Cartiglia has had the pleasure of teaching at NCU since 2004. He began his teaching career during his time at Washington State University, where he earned his PhD in 1995—completing his dissertation on binge eating disorder. Soon after, he began teaching at California State University, Fullerton in 1997 and added California State University, Dominguez Hills in 1998. Dr. Cartiglia is currently the program director for the online Sport and Fitness Psychology Certificate Program at California State University, Dominguez Hills, which allows him to combine his love of psychology and his love of sports (Go Patriots!). His initial plan as he entered college was to become a cardiologist, but his interest in psychology was piqued by PSYC 101 as an undergrad at the University of California, Irvine. This caused him to happily change the plan. Falling in love with psychology led him to become a biology-psychology double major. He went on to earn bachelor's degrees in psychology and biology at UC Irvine before later completing his master's degree and PhD in clinical psychology at Washington State. Since then, in addition to teaching, he has worked at various times as a practicing clinician in a university hospital, university student health center, private psychiatric hospitals and in private practice settings. He is also a member of the International Neuropsychological Society. During his 14 years at NCU, Dr. Cartiglia has taught numerous psychology courses, served on (and chaired) dissertation committees, developed courses, served on Faculty committees and been a lead mentor (a title which no longer exists). He currently teaches the following psychology courses: 5104, 5109, 6105, 7013, 7101, 7102, 7103, 8100 and 8303. Dr. Cartiglia lives in Orange County, California with his wife, 21-year-old son and three chihuahuas. He loves spending time with his family and enjoys reading, hiking, going to church, listening to music, playing and watching sports, going to movies, cooking, swimming, traveling and going to Disney theme parks. Mark Cartiglia, PhD Part-Time Faculty, Department of Psychology
