Doctor of Nursing Practice in Executive Leadership (DNP) Strong leaders are essential for success in any industry, but are crucial for organizations operating in the highly-regulated healthcare industry. To truly understand how to support the needs of patients and healthcare organizations alike, one must not only have business skills, but a command of advanced nursing practices and in-depth industry knowledge. NCU's Doctor of Nursing Practice in Executive Leadership program is a practice-focused doctorate that provides an alternative for obtaining a terminal degree in nursing. Advanced practice includes all nursing interventions that influence healthcare outcomes, including management of care for individuals and populations, direct patient care, administration, leadership for nursing and healthcare organizations, and the development of health policy. The DNP program is a post-master's program, providing a pathway to achieve doctoral level competencies consistent with a clinical program of study. Coursework in the program emphasizes advanced topics in nursing, field experiences and capstone nursing experiences. Students will explore key topics such as organizational leadership, economics and finance, advocacy for healthcare policy improvement and how to use data and technological resources for decision-making. Students will complete an evidence-based research project designed to offer invaluable hands-on experiences. Advanced nursing field experiences are guided by agency mentors and are provided in the students' geographical regions. NCU's DNP program closely aligns with the American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials and the competencies from the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE).
