FACULTYSPOTLIGHT Social and Behavioral Sciences Elizabeth Speights, PhD, LMFT Part-Time Faculty, Department of Marriage and Family Sciences Elizabeth began teaching as an adjunct professor at NCU at the beginning of 2017. She earned her doctorate in family therapy from Texas Woman's University in Denton, and her MMFT from Abilene Christian University, also in Texas. She also has a BA in sign language interpreting from Maryville College in Maryville, Tenn. Her research interests include life cycle transitions, play therapy, and couples. During the dissertation process, Elizabeth stepped out of the field for a decade to focus on raising her daughter and in 2016 she re-entered the field teaching for ACU's online MFT program before moving to NCU. At NCU, she currently teaches the following courses in the MAMFT program: MFT 5106 Research Methods, MFT 6105 Couples and Sex Therapy, MFT 8206 Early Childhood and Parenting Interventions, and MFT 8307 The Couple Life Cycle in MFT, as well as the foundations course for both the DMFT and PhD programs. She also teaches in the DFW area at Texas Wesleyan University and Texas Woman's University. Over the next few months, she will start working with clients again in private practice, working towards becoming an approved supervisor, and eventually a registered play therapist. It's been an unusual path, but she is glad to be back! Along with her adjunct responsibilities, she also homeschools her teenage daughter. She and her family live outside the city limits in the Fort Worth area on a couple of acres with chickens, a horse, and a couple of cats. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, baking, playing games, reading, and traveling.
