4 Tell us about your clinical training/licensure, experience, and current work setting/location. Currently I am supervising five NCU students at Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Center in Hawaii. Professionally, I have enjoyed working with students my entire life. First, as a high school teacher in St. Louis, where I taught English with an all African-American student body way back in 1972 when all the "Movements" were blooming. I wanted to be a part of those movements, as I was passionate about ethnic rights, women's rights, peaceniks rights, etc. I was a single mother of four children and wanted to be with more like-minded people, so we piled in our VW bus to move to California, Humboldt County. There I attended California State University, Humboldt, for my Master's in Clinical Psychology, MFT emphasis. I became licensed in 1986 and taught at the University, had a private practice and supervised interns at Eureka Vet's Center, and at CASA (Community Action to Stop Abuse), until my first grandchild was born in Hawaii in 1992. I couldn't afford to keep traveling here so I moved to Hawaii, found a job, and currently live where I first landed, 1/2 block from the ocean in a "country" town called Waimanalo, Oahu. Describe your supervision style in three words. I decided on Support Student's Strengths … which felt a bit slogan-ee so I asked some of the students what three words they would use. I must admit, I loved their answers. "Eclectic, warm, empowering, honest, nurturing." They made my day. :) What general reflections do you have about working with NCU students and/or Faculty? When Argosy unfortunately closed, NCU became the choice for many of their students, as MFT programs are rare here.
