11 Elaine Willerton, PhD | Assessment Director, SSBS Esteemed Colleagues, In the last newsletter I shared an overview of four work groups appointed by the Provost to examine some of our institutional assessment processes. The Reporting workgroup was charged with proposing revisions to the Academic Program Review (APR) and Five Year Program Review process and templates. This workgroup, championed by Dr. Erika Prager from the School of Education, consisted of assessment directors from five disciplinary schools and members of the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness (OPIE). The group has completed the bulk of its task and new processes have been approved by shared governance. I wanted to share an overview of those changes and tell you what you can expect to see going forward. We will continue to use a two-tier approach to program review. The first tier, an Annual Assessment Report (AAR) is completed each year during Q1 and updated quarterly, coinciding with the fiscal calendar. The report consists of four sections: curriculum, student outcomes, interpretation of findings and future goals and action plans. The second tier, is a 5-8-year Program Review (PR). The timing and frequency of the program review is intentionally flexible so that it may coincide with any programmatic accreditation self- studies or other requirements. The Program Review is a comprehensive examination of academic program quality that incorporates both internal and external review. Because of NCU's new fiscal calendar, this year the AAR will be comprised of findings spanning January 2018 – June 30, 2019. I will be drafting the AAR for each program and sending them out for review and comment. This will be the second year that the report will be completed in Campus Labs which is the platform that replaced Taskstream. I am eager to try out the new, streamlined format and to get feedback from stakeholders. Ideally, we will identify ways for faculty to be more involved in the creation of these reports in the coming years. Note: The figure (on page 12) accompanying this update was prepared by the Office of Institutional Planning and Effectiveness.
