OF PSYCHOLOGY UPDATES Bettina Shapira, PhD Happy Winter! Much has happened since the last updates. In August of this year we celebrated graduation. For me the graduation ceremony was touching and filled with feelings of purpose and pride. It was wonderful to meet so many graduates in person. With great pride, I would like to announce that the new PhD specialization in Counseling Psychology went live in November of 2019. The counseling psychology specialization is designed for Master level mental health therapists to deepen their clinical skills and advance their theoretical knowledge. In addition, we revised the Post Master Certificate in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, which went live in November as well. We are currently working on revising the PhD Gender Diversity specialization. For the revision of this specialization, we created a taskforce that reviewed the old specialization and is now in the process of suggesting and implementing significant revisions. This is the first time that we have a taskforce working on revising a specialization. Dr. Angie Stones, Dr. Elizabeth D'Arrigo-Patrick, and Dr. Kristopher Lichtanski are spearheading the taskforce. Their great work, knowledge, commitment, insight, and sincerity are the corner stones of what will become the Psychology of Gender and Sexual Fluidity specialization. I want to thank Dr. Stones, Dr. D'Arrigo-Patrick, and Dr. Lichtanski for taking on this task. We are currently looking into the prospective for developing two new Master level specializations; one in Applied Behavioral Analysis and one in Sport Psychology. I will have further updates to share with you all in the next edition of the newsletter. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Jamie Wernsman and Dr. Joel Goodin as full-time professors to the Department of Psychology. Dr. Jamie Wernsman holds a PhD from DePaul University in Clinical Psychology. Dr. Wernsman's specialization is Forensic Psychology. Dr. Goodin holds a PhD from Florida State University in Educational Psychology. He will serve as the internship coordinator for the MS in Educational Psychology. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Jamie Wernsman and Dr. Joel Goodin! As you can see, there are many exciting things happening in the Psychology Department. With all of this being said, I wish you a wonderful season!
