Greetings Colleagues and Friends!
We are in an unprecedented time in our shared world. The COVID-19
pandemic has demonstrated to all of us just how much we do share this
world. It is a catch-22 situation where we are learning how much we
share this world and yet how we need to engage in social distancing.
We are fortunate that we can connect and still practice what is being
recommended. In fact, it is even more important during these difficult
times to connect as humans as we seek to provide support to one
another through this stressful time.
Working at NCU, where it is emphasized that we are focused on
improving the human condition, has been such a wonderful part of my
career. We really are supported in doing what is best for our students,
staff, and faculty, as students prepare themselves, and we all enhance
our ability, to make even more significant contributions to their/our
communities. One of my favorite quotes from Nelson Mandela is, "What
counts is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we
have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of
the life we lead."
We continue to succeed in our MSW, MAMFT, PhDMFT, and DMFT
programs. We are growing in student population with nearly 1,900
students in the DMFS (when I started in 2010, we were serving around
200 students), we are continuing to push the previously perceived limits
of providing high quality educational experiences, and we continue to
develop deep and meaningful relationships with our students and with
each other. I am so grateful to be one of you, to work with you, and to
call you my friends. Please stay safe, healthy, and optimistic. Another
quote from Nelson Mandela:
"Part of being optimistic is keeping one's head pointed toward the sun and
one's feet moving forward."
