Bettina Shapira, PhD Department Chair, Department of Psychology Greetings. I hope you are enjoying the summer! First, I want to start with some very exciting news. As I mentioned in March, we were developing a Master of Arts specialization in Sport Psychology, which went live in April. We already have six students in the program, which is great, but more importantly this specialization received approval by the Association of Applied Sport Psychology [AASP] that our curriculum covers the eight knowledge areas as required by them; meaning our students will be able to pursue the certification to become a Certified Mental Performance Consultant (CMPC). We are now featured on the AASP website as a recognized program. This is a meaningful step for the department. Many were involved in the development of this specialization and I want to thank all of them, but in particular I want to thank Dr. Grayson Kimball, the new program coordinator for sport psychology. Dr. Kimball played a key role in developing the program and overseeing that AASP recognition. Dr. Kimball joined last year as a curriculum SME, later as an adjunct faculty and this year in May as a program coordinator for the sport psychology specialization. Dr. Kimball holds a Doctor in Physical Education with a specialization in sport psychology from the Springfield College. He was previously the program lead for the sport psychology program at Argosy. Please join me in warmly welcoming Dr. Grayson Kimball. We also developed a Master of Arts specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis. This specialization will go live on July 6. The Master of Arts specialization in Applied Behavior Analysis is the first program that we offer in the department that is clinical. I think that this is a great enhancement for the department and a step in the right direction for us. On June 18, we received verification of the curriculum by the Applied Behavior Association International for a verified course sequence (VCS); meaning students can pursue the certification for a Board Certified Behavior Analyst ® . This is a great achievement and I want to thank Dr. Melinda Docter for her diligent work, commitment, and expertise in making this happen. UPDATES Department
