Jane Barden, PhD Full-Time Faculty, Department of Marriage and Family Sciences Dr. Jane Barden has been teaching at NCU since December of 2019. She is one of five full-time professors in the MSW program. Dr. Barden earned both her PhD and master's degrees at the University of Chicago School of Social Service Administration. She received her bachelor's degree in anthropology and music from Lawrence University in Appleton, Wisconsin. Dr. Barden also completed a post-doctoral research fellowship at the University of Notre Dame. Dr. Barden began her teaching career as a graduate teaching assistant and has taught at every level of social work education – bachelor's, master's, and doctoral. At NCU, she teaches across the social work curriculum and several classes in psychology. With graduate concentrations in developmental psychology and organization studies, she is something of a "Jane -of-all-trades" in her teaching. Both Dr. Barden's practice and research focus on forensic social work. She has worked at the intersection of social work and law with children accused of violent crimes charged as adults, on a federal lawsuit on behalf of people who were homeless, and with parents and foster parents at risk of losing their children. Her research has focused on organizational factors impacting the collaboration between social workers and lawyers. Dr. Barden is a midwesterner through-and-through. She was born in North Dakota, grew up in Minnesota, went to college in Wisconsin, and graduate school in Chicago. She currently lives in Indiana- one state where she never anticipated she would live! Dr. Barden and her husband, a law professor, have one fifteen-year-old daughter and three very spoiled dogs. In her free time, Dr. Barden enjoys reading, board games, and spending time with friends – even on Zoom! 4
