and deeper conversations. It is also important to recognize that whenever new opportunities are involved,
possible disappointments are also likely to exist. It is important for not only new PhD graduates, but all job
applicants, to not let disappointment and rejection become the sole or all-consuming focus. Every situation,
including rejection, can be an informative experience. It is important to look at rejection as information from
which to learn. This does not mean that every rejection should be looked at as the applicant doing something
wrong that needs to be fixed. It is important to remember that employers and universities consider many
factors while selecting who they feel is the right candidate, and some of these factors cannot be rushed
or controlled by applicants. Although there are many factors that cannot be rushed or controlled, creating
a comprehensive CV is a great way for applicants to build confidence and showcase their abilities and
qualifications. Creating and executing a successful CV can be the difference between getting in the door or
ending up in the discarded bin.
