12 An institutional work group has been exploring the functionality of the PCS and focused on two main initiatives. The first was to reactivate faculty summaries of PCS scores and feedback. This was achieved during the fall, when faculty having four or more completed surveys in a course received a report. The plan going forward is to deploy the report twice per year. The second initiative was to increase student response rate. Many suggestions were discussed. In October 2021, the Office of Planning and Institutional Effectiveness launched a drawing. As a thank you to students for completing their PCS, students will automatically be entered into a monthly drawing to receive one of four $25 Amazon gift cards or may elect to donate their $25 to the charity of their choice. What can faculty do to increase response rate on their Post Course Surveys? Research on response rates to PCS consistently indicates that when faculty express interest in student feedback, students are more likely to complete the PCS. Consider these suggestions: • Mention the survey in your welcome letter • During the last week of the course, I hope you will take a few minutes to complete the confidential Post Course Survey. Student perspectives and feedback are useful to me as an instructor and to our efforts of continuous improvement in the courses we offer. • Incorporate a survey reminder into final week feedback • I have enjoyed our work together in this course and I hope you'll take a few minutes to leave your feedback in the confidential Post Course Survey. • Explain why you value student feedback • Student feedback helps me understand your experiences and needs as a student. • Mention specific feedback you are hoping to get • I am especially interested in your thoughts on what feedback was most helpful to you as you developed your literature review. • Give an example of something PCS feedback led you to change • Student feedback in the Post Course Survey has led me to offer more real-world examples in my feedback.
