In any case, psychedelic therapy is coming to a clinic near you. It is only a matter of time. It will be covered by insurance like any other therapy. In my view, its dangers have not been studied enough—though initial data suggest that they are less dangerous than standard psychiatric medications. Knowledge about psychedelics comes not only from scientists. There is a fast-growing community of "volunteers" who are sharing their own experiences with psychedelics and posting about them in public forums. There are new apps appearing, purportedly science-based and claiming to help guide the safe use of these powerful drugs (see https://www.mydelica.com). What to make of this avalanche of data? No one knows for sure, but scientists are busily uncovering the secrets of what makes psychedelics so apparently effective in the treatment of all kinds of mental health disorders. We as psychologists should have a stake in the emerging field, ensuring that psychedelic medicine's promise is realized while ensuring safety, equity, and rigorous scientific evaluation of this new frontier in psychological medicine.
