FACULTYSPOTLIGHT KRISTIN KOETTING (KK) O'BYRNE, PHD Full-Time Faculty, Department of Psychology Kristin Koetting O'Byrne (also known as KK) received her PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri-Kansas City, and her undergrad in psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Her research interests include health psychology and positive psychology. She was the recipient of a Faculty Research Award at NCU for her research project, "Hope and Physical Health: A Meta-Analysis." She recently co-authored a chapter in the Handbook of Hope on Physical Health and Hope. KK joined NCU in April 2012, and although she primarily serves as a dissertation chair, she also teaches PSY7109 – Planning Dissertation Research. KK lives in Leawood, KS with her daughters, Anna (age 16) and Carolina (age 12), and cats, Luna and Bounder. When she isn't working, she enjoys photography, art, cooking, hiking, and writing. She especially loves writing children's poetry, which she found is one form of advice her own kids will take! KK has leisurely been writing a book on parenting and positive psychology, which she jokingly said would be done before Anna went to college. With one year left, the clock is ticking! FACULTYSPOTLIGHT School of Social and Behavioral Sciences KK and her daughters taking a break from a hike near Bear Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park this past summer, while testing the effectiveness of her parenting intervention, "Altitude Trumps Attitude." Although it was a small sample, she says it works; her kids don't fight when they are in the mountains!
