Pre-Symposium Video Overview: Innovation and Improvement Attending the annual Symposium and Commencement in Phoenix is a highlight each year for many reasons. Having the opportunity to see many colleagues in person is a refreshing change from the daily grind. Watching our graduates and their families celebrate their accomplishments is a rewarding reminder of why we do what we do. A common sentiment among Symposium attendees is that one of the most valuable experiences is the time spent in School or Department breakout sessions. These sessions give faculty, staff and Program Advisory Council (PAC) members a chance to participate in discussions and work together in ways that just can't be replicated online. Historically, though, the time allotted for these breakout sessions is brief and faculty consistently share that they wish for more of this time together. In response, this year the School of Social and Behavioral Sciences (SSBS) admin team decided to try something different. Each team member prepared a brief overview relevant to their area. In the past, these overviews were delivered at the Symposium. However, this year the reports were recorded and uploaded for faculty, staff and PAC members to watch at their leisure prior to the Symposium. Our hope was that these videos would provide a relevant overview and update without encroaching on the limited work time allotted at the Symposium. To gauge reaction to this experiment, viewers were invited to share their impressions of the videos in a brief survey. Twenty-eight (28) viewers responded to the survey. A summary of the results is presented below. How useful was the information presented in the video? Elaine Willerton, PhD | Assessment Director, SSBS
